Guildford Tomorrow

A reminder this evening of tomorrow’s service changes, which predominantly affect the Guildford area. Out eastwards, Buses 4U have revised timetables on routes 22, 50 and 522 around Dorking. On routes stretching out of town, some into similar territory, are timetable revisions – mostly reductions – to Compass Bus’ Guildford area network. This consists of the 23, 24, 25, 32 and 42 (only school route 625 is unaffected).

The big news is happening in town though, with the introduction by Safeguard of their new 3s service to Bellfields. Existing Optare Tempo YJ06 FXM and recently acquired Tempo YJ58 CEY will be the allocated vehicles on the route. The route will compete with Arriva’s existing 3, who last year commented on “healthy competition” between operators after they commenced running into Park Barn alongside Safeguard’s 4/5. With Safeguard so far seeming to have a loyal following in Park Barn, it will be interesting to see if Bellfields’ residents stay loyal to their incumbent. Click here for a more detailed look at the new service.

Staying in town, revised timetables will also commence on Stagecoach routes 1/1X, 2, 17, 100, 200, 300 and 400. The latter routes are the four Park & Ride services which, whilst they won’t have the extended operating hours originally announced, will see the introduction of the brand new fleet of nine electric BYD/ADL Enviro 200EVs. The oak leaf livery is replaced by Stagecoach corporate, and a new ‘Glide’ brand name will be introduced. The vehicles carry fleet numbers 29101-9 and registrations LJ68 CZA-H/K (they were originally spotted with registrations YX68 UUO/P/R/S/T/V/W/Y/Z).

The Stagecoach in Guildford Fleet News page on Facebook has been reporting on the whereabouts of the existing Park & Ride fleet. The trio of East Lancs-bodied Darts 33189-91 (LK06 BWB & LK07 CBO/U) will be returned to Surrey County Council (via Basingstoke depot) and presumably end up in the hands of Chartwell Bus Sales, who have dealt/are dealing with the sale of the former Abellio and Arriva examples. As for the six Pointer-bodied Darts (34852-7, GX06 DXA-F), they are seemingly currently moving across the region. DXC has appeared in Worthing, whilst DXD/E are at Winchester.

Below is a list of tomorrow’s service changes and links to the new timetables. Just before that though, a little promotional video showing Stagecoach’s new vehicles…
